The Detroit Symphony Orchestra has been located in Midtown Detroit at their historic Orchestra Hall home for over a century. It is the eminent and everlasting music venue of the city. The Orchestra is composed of pianist, a string section, brass section, and bass + drums. The group was founded in December of 1887, and has been a staple of the city ever since. They have played the music of the greatest composers in the world - including Mahler, The Funk Brothers, Holland-Dozier-Holland, Aaron Copland, and now - John Williams. Through all of its ups and downs, the DSO has remained a staple of the city - recording hits with MoTown, hosting weekly broadcasts on the Sunday night radio stations, and even starting an Arts School in the city. The Symphony is here to stay - and we will get such a special treat when they perform on July 6th in the Amphitheatre.
John Williams is a 93 year old American composer and conductor. You’ve more than likely heard his music in some of your favorite films. I mean, in his seven decades long career, he has made the soundtracks for Fiddler on the Roof, Indiana Jones, Home Alone, Harry Potter, the 1984 Summer Olympics, and many many more iconic sounds from our day to day lives. He's also won 28 Grammys, three Emmys, four Golden Globes, and has a plethora of other awards and accolades that would take an entire page to list. He IS symphonic and orchestral music - and his career of almost a century proves that. When Williams takes the stage - people flock for the occasion, and he is a powerhouse for his movie melodies and compositions. He is the inspiration of any modern day composer, and his music will be heard and replayed for generations to come.
